K-Pop star and actor Lee Ji-han has been confirmed as one of the more than 150 victims left by the stampede Halloween event that occurred on Friday 29 in October in the Itaewon neighborhood of Seoul.
The company Ji-han’s management, 935 Entertainment, confirmed the tragic news the next day on 30 October: “We are sad to break the news today, but Lee Ji-han passed away in the crush in Itaewon. We would like to express our deepest condolences to his family, who are saddened by the sudden tragic news, as well as everyone who loved him,” they said in a statement.
The agency continued, “Lee Ji Han smiled brightly as he greeted us all the time. He had pure, positive energy with a great passion for acting. It’s so hard to believe we can’t see it anymore. Please send your warm goodbye to Lee Ji-han. He will always be remembered.”
Ji-han, from 24 years ago, was present at the Halloween event, where many people died in a narrow alley in Itaewon City after the area was overcrowded and the people began to panic.
Lee died as a result of being crushed.
It was unclear what prompted the mob to burst into the downhill alley. Witnesses said that people were falling on top of each other “like dominoes” and that some victims were bleeding from the nose and mouth while receiving CPR.
According to CNN, the country has begun a period of mourning for a week while officials try to discover what caused the increase.
On the other hand, the young artist reached the fame when he participated in the second season of the reality show ‘Produce 101’, in which 101 contestants competed for the chance to get a spot in a band of 11 members.
He made his acting debut in a web drama called ‘Today Was Another Nam Hyun Day’, in 1200.
