After his controversial promotion to an anti-Semitic film on social networks, Kyrie Irving has been harshly criticized for that position and now it has been the NBA Players Association (NBPA) who has established a position on the thinking of the Brooklyn Nets player .
According to a published statement, the NBPA explained that they want stadiums and basketball to be linked to an environment where there is space for everyone, for which they expressed concern about the messages left by some players like Irving that can bring “ideas of hate” to society.
“Anti-Semitism has no place in our society. The NBPA is focused on creating an environment where everyone is accepted. We are committed to helping players understand that some words can lead to the spread of hateful ideas”, assured the text.
“We will continue working to identify and combat hate speech”, they added.
Irving’s controversy came when last Friday he posted on his Instagram account an Amazon Prime Video link to the movie “Hebrews to Negroes: Wake Up Black America”, which is based on a book by 2015 and that its content makes anti-Semitic statements.
Some of them highlight that certain “famous Jews ” They venerate characters related to the devil such as Satan or Lucifer.
At the time Irving assured that “the label of anti-Semite” that is being given to him “does not reflect reality” and that he did not want to disrespect any religious faith.
“I am an ‘omnist’ and did not want to disrespect anyone’s religious faith. The ‘anti-Semitic’ label that is being given to me is not justified and does not reflect the reality in which I live on a daily basis. I accept and want to learn from all walks of life and religions”, Irving wrote on his Twitter account.
However, the point guard was confronted shortly after at a press conference with a journalist who asked him the reasons for that promotion.
“Don’t dehumanize me. I am a human being, I can write what I want (on social networks), so say it and shut up so we can move on to the next question”, he stated then.
