Comedian Chris Redd became one more victim of unbridled street violence in New York after being hospitalized with blows to the face from a random attack on his way to work.
Redd was attacked arriving at the “Comedy Cellar” in the West Village of Manhattan around 9: 40 pm on October 26, leaving him with a swollen eye and stitches, according to photos released by TMZ.
“I’ve been resting like crazy but I want to say thank you thank you thank you for all the messages of love, jokes and concern,” the actor wrote on Instagram on Sunday, four days after the attack. “I’m fine and I’m healing fast!!”
The comedian of 37 years promised to reschedule the shows he canceled after the incident and denied early reports that the alleged attacker attempted to steal the chain he owned.
Redd had just been dropped off at the Comedy Cellar Wednesday night to perform a comedy show when a man with metal fists tackled him “out of nowhere” on MacDougal Street, according to the NYPD.
The seemingly random attack bloodied the steps leading to NYC’s iconic basement comedy club. TMZ reported that the actor felt “very happy and lucky” despite his ordeal.
Redd left “Saturday Night Live (SNL)” in September after it was revealed that he was dating Christina Evangeline, the estranged wife of his partner Keenan Thompson.
NYPD released surveillance footage of the masked suspect in the attack by 26 October, who is still at large.
