A UK woman spent 24 hours in a dog cage listening to hounds bark and recreating the smell of urine by spraying vinegar on hay, to educate others about animal testing.
Anne-Marie Barton, of 34 years old, decided to broadcast live in the cage to recreate the experience of an animal raised in a laboratory and used for tests. He “undressed” his office, which is windowless and separate from his house, and put hay in a box of 125 x 80 x 95 cm, is say, 2.95 feet.
Afterward, he played the sounds of dogs barking on a loop through his headphones and just slept around 16 minutes during his stay, he only left the cage for short bathroom breaks.
Here is the video of Anne-Marie Barton:
Her partner, Luke Cottrell, aged 20, an emotional needs tutor, was present at all times and brought him a meal during the experience. The dog lover wanted to encourage people to use cruelty-free products and help educate them about “the cruelty” of animal testing.
“I wanted to experience as much as possible what they experience the dogs and the animals in these labs,” said Anne-Marie, an educational needs tutor from Guilford, Surrey, England.
“The smell of vinegar, which was intended to replicate urine, made me cry and the barking made me feel as if there were dogs around me that were distressed and that I was next”, he said.
“I would get a lump in my throat. It was a really lonely experience. I barely slept and ended up concentrating on the hay. I just want to make a difference to help make something better for these animals”, she added.
Ann-Marie became aware of the treatment of dogs in laboratories in 2020 and began to inquire about the reality of the situation.
Marie broadcast her experience live on Facebook to up to 5 thousand viewers, talking about her feelings all the time.
