A 6-year-old girl and two adult men were shot last night in a shooting in Newark, the most populous city in New Jersey, located very close to NYC.
The shooting happened a few hours after two police officers were shot at close range by a suspect they were trying to arrest outside an apartment building near Newark Airport.
The minor was rushed with a gunshot wound to the chest, and two adults were also treated at University Hospital after being shot. Newark police said the shooting that wounded the three occurred just before 7 p.m. near the corner of South Orange Avenue and South Ninth Street, NBC News reported.
Witnesses reported having hearing a barrage of gunshots and then seeing several shell casings scattered on the ground outside the Reservoir Towers apartment complex, detailed New York Post.
Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Frage said the girl suffered a collapsed lung but is expected to recover. The two adults were also reported in stable condition. The link between the unidentified victims is unclear.
So far investigators have not shared any details about the circumstances of the shooting and no arrests have been made.
The police attacker, identified as Kendall Howard, is also still at large. The two agents were reported in stable condition, although they remain hospitalized, reported ABC News.
