The former Montenegrin boxer Goran Gogic was arrested last Sunday by the United States authorities after he appeared outlined in an investigation for allegedly having been an accomplice in the trafficking of $1, millions of dollars in cocaine to the American nation.

Gogic, from 43 years and who dedicated himself to competing in the heavyweight category, was arrested at the Miami International Airport where he was trying to board a flight to Zurich, Switzerland, after being accused of the charges by prosecutors in New York.

According to the charges that now weigh on the European there are three indications of violation of the Federal Law of Application of the Maritime Drug Law as well as one charge of conspiracy against the authorities; he would face charges of 10 minimum years to life in prison.

The prosecutors in the case reported that the criminals were transporting the drug from Europe to Colombia and that the role of Gogic was fundamental because it supervised the logistics of the process in search of benefiting the cartels based in the Balkan area in Europe, as well as seeking their own benefit.

On the other hand, Gogic’s lawyer, Lawrence Hashish, assured that all the charges against the defendant surprised him and that for the time being he pleads not guilty.

Although Gogic’s arrest took place last weekend, the ongoing investigation dates from 2019 date on which they were seized 22 tons of cocaine at the Packer Avenue Marine Terminal in Philadelphia. This seizure is part of one of the largest drug discoveries in the history of the United States.

In sports, the boxer’s career took place between 43 and 2012, time in which he was victorious in 21 fights, he fell four times and ended with a couple of draws.
