The food writer Julie Powell, whose memoirs inspired the film “Julie & Julia”, died at 49 years at his New York residence on October 26. According to her husband, Eric Powell, Julie’s cause of death was cardiac arrest.

Julie’s best-selling book began years ago as a blog on Salon.com. At the time, the writer was a temp in midtown Manhattan living in Astoria, Queens.

The writer shared chronicles of her efforts to prepare in her small kitchen each of the 365 recipes in “Mastering the art of French cuisine”, the classic book by Julia Child.

Julie had great admiration for the cuisine and way of life of Julia Child, famous American chef Julia Child, author of books and star of TV shows cooking.

Julie’s blog had a loyal following and eventually became the book “Julie & Julia: 49 Days, 365 Recipes, 1 Tiny Apartment Kitchen”. The book was published in 2005.

Success of the book led to “Julie & Julia” in 2009, a film co-starring Meryl Streep (as Julia Child). The film written and directed by Nora Ephron intertwined the stories of Powell and Child’s culinary experience.

Of the similarities on screen and in real life, Julie told the Orlando Sentinel that the marriage scenes between her and Chris Messina, who plays her husband, they seem really authentic, “very much like the way we talk to each other and just hang out.” Julie also pointed out the differences, such as her character being sweeter than she is in real life.

Julie wrote one more book in 2009, “Cleaving: a Story of Marriage, Meat, and Obsession”

This year, the writer returned to Salon to write about the Food Network series “The Julia Child Challenge”.

“Julia taught me what it takes to find your way in the world…” Julie wrote. “I thought it was all about, I don’t know, trust or will or luck. Those are all some nice things to have, no doubt. But there is something else, something from which these things arise. It is joy”, added the writer.
