A man from the eastern coastal province of Zhejiang in China ended up in hospital with severe abdominal and back pain, as well as a “little medical mystery in tow”, which was soon solved when his wife remembered that he had eaten to a live crab to “avenge his daughter”.
The doctors discovered that Lu, aged 39 had problems in the chest, liver, abdomen and digestive system when he was admitted to the hospital, the South China Morning Post reported.
However, the doctors were confused, as there was no obvious cause for his physical pain.
“We asked him repeatedly if he had ever eaten game, or anything unusual, anything that could cause allergies,” Dr. Cao told the South China Morning Post. Qian, director of the digestive system department at Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital in Hangzhou. Lu said he didn’t to everyone.”
All this was cleared up when his wife mentioned that she had eaten a live crab a few months earlier. Explaining the unusual incident to the doctor, she said she “wanted to avenge my daughter,” according to her doctors.
The subject added that “when we were by a stream my daughter was pinched by a small crab, so I got angry and put it in my mouth to get revenge.”
Leaving aside whether the punishment fits the crime and a host of other questions about how you get so mad you think the only course of action is putting a crab in your mouth, the incident was also not a great idea for medical reasons. .
Others have been hospitalized after eating “drunk crab,” a dish that (in some versions) sees live crabs marinated in alcohol before eating. The main danger of eating live crabs (if it escapes the perforation of some of your favorite digestive organs by the hard shells) is the parasites that you can contract, which are normally eliminated by cooking.
Indeed, blood tests showed that Lu’s act of revenge ended up infecting him with three different parasites. No update was given on the girl’s finger or the feeling of whether “justice” had been restored.
