The legendary Spanish defender Carles Puyol has sent an emotional message to Gerard Piqué, after he announced his retirement from football on Thursday.
The former Barcelona player assured that the fans have been unfair to Piqué , because few have worn the Barça shirt with the same passion.
Through an Instagram post, Puyol expressed the admiration and affection he feels for the Barcelona center-back.
“Thank you for everything, Geri. I am in shock. It has been very unfair to you, few have defended the Barça shirt as you have. I can always explain that I played alongside you, a privilege. I love you friend“Puyol wrote, accompanying the message with several photos of both.
Barcelona central defender Gerard Piqué announced his retirement from football and that next Saturday’s game against Almería will be the last game he plays at the Camp Nou, as he published in a video on his social networks.
“This Saturday will be my last game at the Camp Nou. I will become one more culer, I will cheer on the team and pass on my love for Barça to my children just as my family did with me“, Piqué affirms in the video entitled ‘Culers, I have to tell you something’.
