'zurdo'-ramirez-assures-that-he-does-not-dream-of-being-a-superstar-and-only-thinks-of-defeating-dmitry-bivol

The Mexican boxer, Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramírez affirmed this Thursday that he does not have in mind to become a world boxing star, and that for now he only thinks of beating the Russian Dmitry Bivol.

Ramírez is mentally preparing for this Saturday’s fight, in which he intends to take the World Boxing Association (WBA) light heavyweight title from Bivol.

“Now I only think about being a world champion twice, not about becoming a boxing superstar. I will continue to add to my legacy to eventually become a legend. That is my goal”, he stated during the press conference prior to the confrontation to be held at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi.

The “Zurdo” will be the second Mexican in a row to try to beat Bivol, after the fight that Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez lost in May.

Ramírez is confident that he will get his second world title, after being the World Boxing Organization (WBO) super middleweight champion.

“It is exciting for me coming here to Abu Dhabi from Mazatlan because it is the same climate as at home. I have trained hard for this fight, that’s for sure. I hope the fans enjoy the fight“, he said.

The boxer of 30 years maintains an undefeated record with a total of 44 wins, 30 of them by way of knockout.

Meanwhile, Bivol maintains an undefeated record of 20 victories, 11 of them on the fast track. The Russian assured that it will not be easy for Ramírez.

“I have gone through a great journey to have this belt, I really don’t want to lose it. I’m going to fight for him to keep him. From this camp I had three locations, in which I had a good training and the last one was Abu Dhabi. I feel like I had everything I needed to train”, said bivol.

The fighter from 31 years denied that defeating Canelo, who was then considered the best pound-for-pound boxer, had made him lose his hunger to win.

“I try to think only of my dream to reach my maximum potential. I try to be hungry all the time and stay focused on my training and rivals. I try to think that this Saturday will be the toughest fight of my career, I have to be more focused than ever“, he sentenced.
