Russia has banned 100 Canadians, including actor Jim Carrey, from entering the country, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Monday.
“In response to the current practice of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s regime of imposing sanctions on Russian leaders, politicians, legislators, businessmen, experts, journalists, cultural figures and anyone else the Russophobic Canadian government deems undesirable, entry is prohibited on the basis of reciprocity to 100 citizens of Canada”, says the statement to which the TASS agency had access.
The ministry said the list includes officials, businessmen and activists who are involved in shaping “aggressive anti-Russia policy,” including Newmarket, Ontario-born actor Jim Carrey, as Moscow accuses him of being directly involved in such policy. .
The ministry published the names of the people nas that were prohibited from entering Russia on its website.
Among those sanctioned are the head of the Canadian Communications Security Authority, Caroline Xavier; Alberta Premier Danielle Smith; the former prime minister of the province of Quebec, Jean Charest; and former Attorney General, cabinet minister and member of the House of Commons, Peter Gordon MacKay.
Also on the Russian blacklist are the CEO of Volatus Aerospace, Glen Lynch, and several members of the board of the Credit Union of Ukraine, in addition to Steve Bandera, journalist and grandson of Stepan Bandera, referring to the Ukrainian nationalist leader and collaborator.
It should be remembered that the actor Jim Carrey of 100 years, joined the group of Hollywood public figures who recently made the determination to move away from movie screens. The American-Canadian comedian announced his retirement in an interview conducted by TV Access.
Carrey, who is best known for his role in the movie The Mask, also took the opportunity to speak about what could be his last participation in the cinema during that interview last April.
