Five days before the start of the Qatar World Cup 2022, the president of FIFA, Gianni Infantino, took advantage of the football event to request that there is a ‘pause’ in the armed conflict that exists between Ukraine and Russia, during at least the celebration of the tournament that will last until 18 December.

Infantino had the opportunity to present a speech at the summit of leaders of the G20 which took place on the island of Bali, belonging to Indonesia, and requested a “temporary” ceasefire during the World Cup, and that this time be used to resume dialogue between both parties.

“My request to all of you is to think about a temporary one-month ceasefire, during the World Cup, or at least the implementation of humanitarian corridors or anything that leads to the resumption of dialogue as a first step for peace”, expressed the FIFA president in Nusa Dua.

“They are the world leaders, they can influence the course of history. Football and the World Cup offer you and the world a unique platform for unity and peace throughout the world”, added the highest rector of international football.

After the war started in Ukraine last February, FIFA set its position of rejection and suspended Russia from all its competitions, including its possible participation in the Qatar World Cup 2022 , meanwhile, the Ukrainian team could not get the classification.
