The journalist and social leader Wilder Córdoba was shot dead by hitmen in the Colombian town of La Unión, department of Nariño, on the border with Ecuador, official sources reported on Tuesday. Córdoba, director of the private channel Unión TV, was riding a motorcycle through the El Salado hamlet when he was attacked by armed men, in events recorded on Monday.
“We regret that violence silences the voice of our journalists in Nariño. We ask the competent authorities to promptly clarify the fact that today mourns the department, for the murder of the journalist Wilder Córdoba”, said the governor of Nariño, John Rojas.
Córdoba was “approximately 29 years old” and unknown persons on a motorcycle “shot him three times” while he was was traveling through a rural area, said the mayor of La Unión, Fabián Echeverría.
