Authorities identified a Tennessee woman missing several days ago whose body was found in the trunk of a car that crashed on the Detroit-Dearborn border.
Investigators working in conjunction with the Wayne County Medical Examiner revealed the name of the woman found inside the trunk as Eleni Kassa, of 34 years, the Murfreesboro Police Department reported on Facebook on Monday night.
The car where Kassa’s body was found was involved in a traffic accident and in a shooting that took place in suburban Detroit , where the driver identified as Dominique Hardwick, aged 31, her boyfriend, was mistakenly shot by police during The shooting.
Kassa was reported as missing to Murfreesboro police last November, authorities reported.
“The missing person’s investigation revealed that a possible incident of domestic violence occurred” between Kassa and Hardwick, after an argument in the woman’s apartment. Her mother’s cell phone and vehicle were left at the residence.
Until now, the circumstances surrounding the death of the victim have not been determined, the officials said.
The detectives in charge of the case continue to interview witnesses, including a woman from 31 years old, who was riding in the front seat with Hardwick and who was injured in the shooting.
Dearborn police approached a black Dodge Charge, however, the person behind the wheel immediately sped up and fled as officers approached. Moments later, the car crashed into a house.
“As the officers approached the scene of the accident, there was an exchange of fire between the officers and the suspect,” explained the Dearborn police.
Hardwick’s autopsy results determined that died from a self-inflicted impact.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Eleni’s family and the Murfreesboro community,” the Michigan State Police wrote on their Twitter account.
