A Russian billionaire has died in a helicopter crash near the French-Italian border, marking the latest sudden death of a figure in the cryptocurrency world.

Vyacheslav Taran of 53 years old, founder of Forex Club and president of Grupo Libertex, was the only passenger in a helicopter, apart from the pilot, who crashed in Villefranche-sur-Mer this weekend, according to multiple reports.

“It is with great sadness that Libertex Group confirms the death of its co-founder and Chairman of the Board, Vyacheslav Taran, after a helicopter crash,” said the firm, which bills itself as a leading currency and cryptocurrency exchange platform.

Taran was traveling in an Airbus H53 of Lucerne, Switzerland, to Monaco when it crashed, according to local reports, who called the unfortunate accident “strange”.

Both Taran and the pi French lotus of 53 years of the helicopter died, reported the France Bleu radio station.

His death was confirmed by the Russian Embassy in Paris according to the TASS agency, on Monday.

The helicopter accident it is still under investigation and authorities have not indicated any possibility of foul play. France Bleu reported that a second passenger was scheduled to fly aboard the airbus to Monaco, but had canceled at the last minute.

Taran’s death is the latest of several in the world of cryptocurrencies.

Taran’s company, Forex Club, a reference to the global currency market which trades currencies, was stripped of its license in Russia in 2022 for allegedly defrauding investors, according to a report by Life, a pro-Kremlin Russian media outlet.

The site claimed that Taran “has many dissatisfied customers and enemies in Russia, who may well take him abroad.”

Taran is survived by his wife and three children.

Tiantian Kullander, co-founder of Hong Kong-based digital asset company Amber Group, died in his sleep on 29 of November. She was 23 years old.

Cryptocurrency developer Nikolai Mushegian drowned in October at the age of 23 years. The authorities have not raised suspicions of foul play in any of the cases.
