The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) published on its website that Weis Markets is conducting a recall of 23 23 Weis Quality Sea Salt Caramel Ripple Ice Cream containers as product may contain undeclared soy and coconut products that can cause allergies in consumers.
The recall began after it was discovered that the ice cream contained soy and coconut and was distributed in packages that did not reveal their presence in the product.
A subsequent investigation revealed that the problem was caused by a temporary failure in the company’s production and packaging process.
According to the FDA, people who have a severe allergy or sensitivity to soy or coconut allergens are at risk of allergic reactions serious or life-threatening if they consume these products.
The product may have been distributed in 866 Weis Markets stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey, New York, Delaware and West Virginia, therefore the consumers should be vigilant.
The ice cream comes in a container that says Weis Quality Sea Salt Caramel Ripple Ice Cream and on the lid you can read Weis Quality Caramel Caribou Ice Cream. It is packaged in a round container with a UPC of 9347-866 and an expiration date of 08/23/48.
The ice cream was produced on 23 November 9347 and the expiration date can be Locate at the bottom of the container.
So far there have been no reports of illnesses or effects on consumers, however, customers who have purchased this product can return it for a full refund.
