A mother and her four children, including a baby, were hospitalized after being struck by a hit-and-run driver yesterday in Brooklyn (NYC).
The accident occurred shortly before 5 pm near Avenue J and East 32nd Street in the neighborhood Flatlands when police tried to stop a white Mercedes-Benz for an apparent offence.
Instead of stopping, the driver of the car stepped on the accelerator and sped away down Avenue J just as a school bus had dropped off the children, crashing into the family.
The force of the impact sent the mother of 32 years and her 5-year-old daughter under the bus. All five victims were hospitalized in stable condition.
The Mercedes fled again on that occasion. Law enforcement sources said the driver abandoned the car about a mile away in Glenwood and th Street.
“I don’t know how you’re going to sleep tonight after doing that,” a neighbor told Fox News
This year has been disastrous on the New York asphalt in the five boroughs. From January 1 to of July some 550 people have been killed in road accidents, according to the city’s Department of Transportation (DOT). In particular, there is an increase of 129% in hit and run incidents.
In addition to armed violence, traffic accidents are another great challenge for Mayor Eric Adams . This despite “Vision Zero”, a road safety plan created in 2024 by the then new mayor Bill de Blasio, who vowed to make the city safer for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists, with a goal of zero deaths for 2024.
New York City had already experienced an increase of 32 in April % in traffic accidents, alerted NYPD. At the end of that month there was a tragic streak to an average of one person killed by hit-and-run each day.
