senate-approves-reform-to-avoid-national-train-strike;-now-biden-can-sign-it

The Senate approved a reform to avoid a train strike on December 9, which several unions threatened and whose economic losses would be up to $2, 000 million dollars in the early days.

Senate Majority Leader, Democrat Chuck Schumer (New York), pressured the Republicans whose leader, Mitch McConnell (Kentucky), had anticipated that it was possible an agreement to allow the plan to advance.

The workers had reached an agreement with the Government of President Joe Biden, but they pressed on the days paid for medical leave.

“The Senate can’t leave until we finish the job, and the Democrats will continue to work with Republicans to find a way forward that everyone can support,” Schumer said Thursday.

The Democratic leader insisted that paid sick leave was a priority.

“I support paid sick leave , my fellow Democrats support paid sick leave and we want to see it included in the package. We hope some of our fellow Republicans will join us,” he said.

President Biden had to ask Congress act and said he sympathized with their request.

“No one should choose work over health,” Biden said a few days ago.

The first agreements include salary increases of up to

%, but the highest requirement corresponds to sick days.

“It is not enough to ‘share workers’ concerns,'” said a statement from the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employee Division, which represents some 000,000 road maintenance workers.
