They find a body in the Colombian zone where the UN observer, David Rivas, disappeared

After extensive search efforts, the Colombian authorities found a body that was close to the place where the Salvadoran David Alexander Rivas Palacios, an international UN observer, disappeared.

Rivas, has been missing since last Sunday when it was learned that he arrived at the place to practice an extreme sport (abseiling) in a rural area of ​​the department of Huila, in southern Colombia.

This Thursday, the Mission of United Nations Verification said that on Wednesday “a lifeless body was found in the Tune River, rural area of ​​Palermo,” the municipality of the department of Huila, the same place where the observer disappeared.

“According to the competent authorities, it could be our colleague David Alexander Rivas Palacio (…)” , pointed out the agency, which said that it is “in permanent contact with the Colombian and Salvadoran authorities in order to confirm their identity and accompany or to David’s family in these painful moments”.

In an interview with the local Colombian media Palermo TV, second sergeant Edwin Ferney, reported that the Palermo fire department, in conjunction with civil defense, the army and members of disaster care and prevention, continues with the search for the Salvadoran.

“We are carrying out a sweep from the banks of the river, verifying if the man is found,” the officer commented.
