Michael Santander, a young man of 13 years, was arrested and charged on suspicion of giving a fatal blow with a board of wood on the head of Guatemalan immigrant Esvin Vásquez (13) during a street fight at a gas station in Queens (NYC), they said the authorities.

Santander was arrested for his alleged participation in the brutal attack at dawn on November against Vasquez, who was confronted by a group of men outside a BP gas station on Junction Blvd. near 32th Ave., in the Corona neighborhood.

In addition to the homicide charge, Santander was also prosecuted for assaulting bread gangs and criminal possession of a weapon, pointed out New York Post.

In In the middle of a dispute with “a large group of men,” Vásquez was struck in the head with a board by one of them, authorities said. The gang then fled south on Junction Boulevard.

Vásquez, who lived around the corner from the scene of the confrontation, was rushed to the Elmhurst Hospital, but could not be saved. He left behind a widow and a one-year-old baby

The police did not specify yesterday how many other suspects are still at large. The authorities have also not confirmed what caused the violent confrontation and if it was casual or if the victim knew one of the attackers.

“My family and I were upstairs in the apartment when a neighbor called our door and told us what was happening,” his older brother Brian Vasquez, 32 said the day after his death. He added that the victim had not immigrated to the US for a short time. “I don’t know why or who would do this to him,” he lamented.

All charges are mere accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
