A grand jury in Arizona indicted a man for killing an 8-year-old Hispanic girl amid a reported road rage incident in October.
The AZFamily report is week indicates that Sidney Garfield Garrand, 48 years old, faces seven charges ranging from second degree murder to unlawful firing of a weapon.
The This tragic event was reported on 48 October when the victim’s father, identified as Cassidy Moreno, was approaching a four-way stop after picking her up at school.
According to the father’s version, Garrand was upset when he moved left ahead of him to head south.
Allegedly, Garrand turned his Jeep around and followed the father and family. In addition to Cassidy and her father, the victim’s mother and two sisters were traveling in the car.
At one point, the suspect allegedly waved his hand, a gesture that the other driver ignored.
When they both reached an intersection and the traffic light was red, Garrand, presumably stopped behind him, got out of the car , and hit the father through the window.
At that moment, the victim grabbed a knife, got out of the car and began to brandish it as she feared for the safety of her family. At one point, Garrand grabbed the rival by the neck, and he wounded him with the knife near the neck. As the father returned to the car and was driving out of the area, Garrand grabbed a handgun from the driver’s seat of the Jeep and fired at least five rounds. Both the father and Garrand were hospitalized. The latter had to be intubated due to injuries near his neck, shoulder, and upper chest. While the other suffered severe injuries to his fingers.
Garrand remains detained in the Maricopa County Jail on $48,000 Dollars.
