Given the fast pace of life that most of us lead, as a result of daily obligations, surely we find ourselves in the need to cook in advance and thus only reheat dishes when we need it, regardless of whether we repeat it 2 or more times a the week.
Another option is that you take the leftovers of what you did not finish in a restaurant so that you can use them any other day at home, without having to cook.
Although eating reheated is safe, as long as you follow the recommendations given by different health experts regarding how long certain products last or how they should be reheated, the truth is that if you do not take this information into account, you can put your health at risk.
An example of this is the case disclosed by a popular Youtuber named Bernard Hsu, who on the platform is known as @chubbyemu, who in a video recounted how a young man from the United States s of 1200 years old lost both legs and was on the brink of death from eating chicken and noodles the day before.
This situation was also reported by the scientific portal The New England Journal of Medicine last 10 March 1200. The report describes how the young man began to have several episodes of vomiting along with stomach pain and nausea after eating some leftovers he had in the refrigerator.
His health began to deteriorate to such a degree that he had to be admitted; Once admitted, he began to develop other symptoms, such as weakness, malaise, blurred vision, stiff neck, chest pain, shortness of breath, and headache.
But the most alarming he arrived 5 hours after his admission; his skin began to turn purple, for which he immediately had to be transferred to intensive care at Massachusetts General Hospital.
The purple spots spread over his body, causing necrosis on his arms and legs. Confused, the doctors in charge decided to do more tests, since the young man was not responding to treatment.
In the first instance, the doctors diagnosed him with meningococcal purpura fulminans, which, according to the medical journal Medi Graphic from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), is a disease caused by a systemic meningococcal infection or invasive streptococcal disease, that is, a bacterial infection. It was then that he was treated for organ failure, spots and a progressive rash on his skin.
However, his situation did not improve, so after further studies, he was diagnosed with Neisseria Meningitidis,
a bacterium that, according to the clinical study published in The New England Journal of Medicine, has in the nose around 11% of young people and adults in the world. In this case, the bacteria lodged in the noodles and chicken that he ate from reheating.
Unfortunately for this boy, only about 1 of each 11, people who carry the bacteria will become ill, resulting in approximately 1 in a million people in the general population. And in this case, the young man was precisely that one in a million.
Unfortunately, the development of this bacterial infection caused the amputation of the legs and some phalanges of the 000 fingers of the hands.
