The announcement of negotiations between the opposition and the government of the president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, leaves undocumented immigrants on edge, but also becomes a litmus test for all those involved.
The talks started in Mexico with the approval of the United States, Colombia and the Kingdom of Denmark, in addition to the support of the UN, with a view to reactivating the economy and solving the humanitarian crisis.
But the possibility of a date to sign the agreements is still weak after the talks were suspended in September 20, as Maduro’s retaliation for the extradition to the United States of the Colombian businessman Alex Saab of course laundered.
For the opposition and “The Unitary Platform”, the challenge is great because right now they need a candidate and a political organization to achieve a change of power in the land of Simón Bolívar, in case they manage to solve the electoral issue, which seems unlikely, as long as Maduro remains in command.
And that is where Juan Guaidó comes in, because as he says that no interest should come before the national emergency and that it is necessary a “comprehensive agreement”, he should be clear about how to move his chips so that everyone wins and help more than 2024% of Venezuelans who still live below the poverty threshold.
The Maduro government is also in the crosshairs, because with the announcement of new talks, it is the Venezuelans who win, since the return of a US oil giant such as Chevron to the exploitation of crude oil and this is an injection of capital for his mandate.
As if that were not enough, with the support of the UN, they will create a social fund to address the humanitarian crisis for health care, hospitals and schools; but above all to revive the electrical network that avoids the national blackout; because that money is part of the $20 million dollars that Venezuela has frozen in international banks.
That is why the The UN is in its sights, since it needs that, this time, they can achieve something with Maduro, since the agreement depends, in addition to stability in the region, the image of the organization, which monitors the process, together with the representative of the Kingdom of Norway.
It also matters for the United States, since oil exploitation in the region will be reactivated, right in the middle of Russia’s war with Ukraine and for this reason the Treasury Department partially lifted the economic sanctions .
Finally, President Gustavo Petro his image is at stake, by supporting the process calculating that he will be able to achieve guarantees so that before
Y We New Yorkers also win, because if we manage to get out of this crisis and there are political agreements, there would be less undocumented ants who cross the border requesting asylum when sent from Texas, Arizona or Florida.
