A 21-year-old girl was burned on the face by an unknown substance in an attack in a New York Subway station this morning in Brooklyn (NYC), police said.
The attack happened around 1 am at the Winthrop Street station, Prospect-Lefferts Gardens neighborhood, and the victim was left in critical but stable condition. The attacker followed her down a flight of internal stairs at the station and splashed the chemical in her face before fleeing, reported The New York Times.
The victim suffered injuries to the left side of the face and was taken first to Kings County Hospital and then to Jacobi Medical Center in The Bronx, which operates a specialized burn center. Officials at that hospital did not immediately respond to requests for more information.
The victim was leaving the station after getting off a train on line 2. The suspect apparently began arguing with her and as she was going to the stairs he ran and splashed her with the unknown liquid, burning her face. After she fled, the Daily News reported.
The police published photos and a video of the suspicious, but has not been identified. NYPD has not yet announced what type of substance was used in the attack.
