President Joe Biden will not seek to make changes to his star climate regulations, the Inflation Reduction Act, but he will try to “accommodate the concerns” of France and Germany, the White House spokeswoman explained on Friday, Karine Jean-Pierre.

The US president, after a meeting on Thursday with French President Emmanuel Macron, acknowledged that there were “technical flaws” in the regulation, which includes millions of dollars in subsidies for “made in USA” electric vehicles, and promised to make some changes, without specifying which ones.

“We have no plan to return to Congress to make legislative changes in the la) Inflation”, Jean-Pierre said during a press conference on the way to Boston, where Biden plans to participate in a fundraising event.

The representative of the White House did clarify that the norm is currently “in a p complex implementation process at the federal level”, but made it clear that they are not “going to address any technical failure”.

Jean-Pierre also explained that they are carrying out “substantial” talks with their European colleagues on the best way to accommodate those concerns of France and Germany, who consider that the subsidies would keep European green energy companies out of the US market, putting them at a disadvantage.

One of the possible solutions to The one that Paris and Washington could reach is the establishment of exceptions for European companies, something that Macron had already proposed, but did not publicly repeat at the press conference.

Jean-Pierre said that they are evaluating the possibility of exceptions, but he did not want to anticipate any progress in that regard.
