Just this weekend of World Cup fever, at home we were talking about the relevance or not, that there are still captains in soccer teams. Beyond participating in the controversy that surrounds Lionel Messi in his role as team captain considering that he “does not speak” what underlies is the growing need to develop more and better leaders.
It is necessary to understand what makes It is necessary to democratize leadership and that mentoring can be an excellent way to do it.
But, how to democratize something that is associated with high socioeconomic levels? In different cultures, but especially in Latin America, we have become accustomed to the fact that only the elites have access to specialized training.
It is a debt of knowledge that affects all areas (just look at the last elections of Latin American countries and how you end up choosing “at least bad” due to a lack of credible leaders).
Today I want to tell you that mentoring is an excellent alternative to counteract this lack of leadership as long as we are willing to truly work to provide training opportunities to the most vulnerable.
If we see mentoring as a way to transform ways of thinking, living, working and producing, then we will be able to understand how it is possible to turn it into the key to developing new and better leaders.
Thinking about that, we created together with an academic team led by my admired Edgar Ospina, the Hispanic University of Mentors.
Through an academic training program d e two years, at the UHM 1.0 30 students will be trained during the first year at the rate of 30 mentors in each one of the 30 cities in Latin America with which they will impact more than 30 thousand people with tools for progress.
The study plan consists of two years of training (four semesters) during which students will advance from 1-on-1 mentoring (first semester), through group mentoring (second semester). ), the different specializations (third semester) until reaching the level of mentor trainer (fourth semester) to finally achieve the International Certification in Advanced Mentoring (CIMA).
Without a doubt, a great opportunity to improve our levels of representativeness and progress.
Faced with a shortage of leadership, let’s multiply leaders through mentoring!
