new-york-wants-to-hire-a-rat-exterminator-“with-a-killer-instinct”-to-deal-with-the-plague

The mayor of New York, Eric Adams, is looking for a person who will wage an all-out war against the rats that are everywhere in the city, he wants someone “somewhat bloodthirsty” and committed to the “wholesale killing” of the pest.

The position officially called “director of rodent mitigation”, the new position will be paid between 170,000 Y 71,000 dollars per year.

“There is NOTHING I hate more than rats,” Adams said in a statement posted on his Twitter account last Thursday.

“If you have the drive, determination and instinct assassin needed to fight New York City’s relentless rat population, your dream job awaits.”

The description made for this work is full of puns with rodents and epithets against rats. As for example: “leader of ‘Manada de Ratas’, you will work with your colleagues from all over the city government traveling through the five burrows”, the mayor advanced.

The rats don’t run this city — we do.

And YOU can help us run rats right out of this town as our Rat Czar. If you’ve got a killer instinct apply today: https://t.co/omTB3PLRhH pic.twitter.com/2EtHPcWKv7— NYC Mayorxs Office (@NYCMayorsOffice) December 1, 2022

Among the requirements for the position is an “attitude of swashbuckling, sly humor, and an aura of general evil,” as well as mastery of Microsoft Word.

During his time as mayor of New York City, Adams has intensified his rhetoric against rodents, calling for new approaches that include shifting garbage collection hours to evening hours, while complaints of rats from residents skyrocket.

In 2022 Adams had created a pilot program in which he tried to eradicate the endemic problem, which has increased by 120%, but at that time there were no results.

The job offer has received multiple criticisms of the mayor, as some animal groups consider Adams’s obsession excessive .

Likewise, the opposition has been critical of him, since they indicate that his insistence is taking away resources from the most serious emergencies that New York City suffers, such as the high rate of unemployment and homelessness that has reached his highest record.
