reese-witherspoon-to-star-in-'all-stars',-amazon-prime-video-comedy-series

Reese Witherspoon will star in and executive produce a comedy series set in the world of cheerleading, on Amazon Prime Video.

The project entitled ‘All Stars’ has already secured two seasons on the streaming platform and its story follows a former cheerleader from Daytona Beach (Witherspoon) who crosses the sea to teach “cheerleading” in a school on the coast of England.

“I have been looking for a project that would bring our Hello Sunshine (production company) mission of turning women into heroes of their own stories for a younger generation for a long time. When I saw this story, I immediately knew that this idea would do exactly that.

“The thought of seeing an American woman come to share the very American sport of cheerleading with a group of young women in the UK made me so excited! I love that this show is filled with real heart, deep joy and the power of teamwork,” Witherspoon said in a statement released by international media.

‘All Stars’ is loosely inspired by Andrea Kulberg, a former cheerleader at the University of Texas who now owns a cheerleading school with her twin sister, Aly, in the UK . Witherspoon’s producer Hello Sunshine brought the idea to Aline Brosh McKenna, who wrote and directed the film ‘Your Place or Mine’, which opens in February 2023 and will star Reese.

“I can’t wait to partner with the brilliant, hilarious and talented Aline McKenna once again to create a truly original comedy character, and with the team at Amazon whose passion for this project is unparalleled. ”, she assured.

Witherspoon currently stars in ‘The Morning Show’ on Apple TV+, whose third season is nearing the end of production. She is also set to reprise her role as Tracy Flick in the sequel to ‘Election,’ on Paramount+.
