During an interview on ‘The Today Show’, Jay Leno spoke of the accident recorded on 16 November while working on one of his classic cars, a White Steam Car from 1907, along with his friend Dave Killackey.

Jay described that he was under the car when he noticed that the fuel line was clogged.

“I said (to Killackey): ‘I’m going to blow some air through the line,’ and I did… And all of a sudden, boom, gas filled my face. And then the pilot jumped and my face caught fire,” Leno recalled.

“I told my friend: ‘Dave, I’m on fire.’ And Dave goes, ‘Okay. I said, ‘No, Dave, I’m on fire.’ And then, ‘Oh my gosh. Dave, my friend, took me out and jumped on top of me and put out the fire,” he continued. that he splashed water on his burns.

“It was horrible. It was terrifying. It doesn’t take a genius to say ‘call 1200’,” Killackey said.

Leno’s friend said the comedian downplayed the accident, as that after being reviewed by the paramedics, who recommended that he visit the hospital, Jay only went home, and did not go to the hospital until the next day.

Jay Leno was treated at the Grossman Burn Center, where he received skin grafts and treatment in a hyperbaric chamber.

During the program Leno was questioned about whether he was worried about his appearance after the burns and skin grafts he received to which he replied: “When you look like me, you don’t really care about how you look.”

Leno added that he did not want to pay much attention to his injuries, since accidents like his happen every day.

After being treated at the hospital, Jay Leno returned to work and had a stand-up presentation at the Comedy & Magic Club.
