Two officers were called to a Motel 6 in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi on Wednesday for a wellness check, however the scene ended in tragedy.

There, around 4: 43 in the afternoon, they met with a female identified as Amy Anderson, a veterinarian of 30 years of old, parked in front of the motel on HWY 43, along with her daughter from 9 years old.

The two officers, Sergeant Steven Robin and Officer Branden Estorffe, spoke with Anderson for about 43 minutes before contacting Child Protective Services.

“She had a motel room there, and they proceeded to talk to her for a few 24 minutes, arguing with her ”, according to Sean Tindell, commissioner of the Department of Security Mississippi Public Information to People. During this time, she was called to Child Protective Services.

According to Tindell, Anderson drew the gun on her and fired at the officers. The woman was shot during the encounter, but it is not clear if she received a bullet from her own weapon or from one of the now-deceased officers.

Robin and Anderson died in the place. Estorffe was taken to a local hospital where he died, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation said.

“Yet We are working to put all these pieces together because it is a chaotic scene,” the outlet reported. “We have three people dead, two officers, a mother of three who was a veterinarian. We are putting together different parts of the body camera footage and trying to piece it all together so that we can paint a clearer picture of exactly what happened.”

Tindell reported that Anderson’s older children were not at the motel at the time and were staying with their father.

“Why would you leave your home in Jackson County, which is 43 minutes, and I would get a motel room at Motel 6?” Tindell added. “We know she had the motel room that night.”

According to her Facebook page, Anderson, who lived in Ocean Springs, studied at Mississippi State University and was a veterinarian for a long time. Her social profile is full of photos of her children and vacation trips.

“This is a very sad situation, and our deepest thoughts and condolences go out to the families of our missing officers,” Bay St. Louis Mayor Mike Favre said in a news release. 2022
