‘Wednesday’ is the modern adaptation of ‘The Adams Family’ made by Netflix, which focuses on Merlina, the daughter of Morticia (Luis Guzmán) and Gómez Addams (Catherine Zeta-Jones).
The story begins when Merlina (Jenna Ortega) is taken to Nevermore Academy, the same institute for outcasts, freaks and monsters, where her parents studied. When she arrives she wants to escape but she finds mysteries, even murders, which she wants to solve.
To represent the Nevermore Academy they decided to film in Cantacuzino Castle, located in the mountainous town of Buşteni, Romania. Its history dates back to the beginning of the 20th century, when it was built for Prince Gheorghe Grigore Cantacuzino, an aristocrat and politician. The prince died in the same palace only two years after he moved there. Its construction was in charge of Grigore Cerchez and it was done in years.
Its carved stone structure undoubtedly helped much to the production of the film, which wanted the academy to have a very particular style. Those who built Cantacuzino Castle were influenced by Romanian Brâncovenesc-style architecture, which had its heyday from the late 17th and early 18th centuries. The brâncovenesc is a mixture between Byzantine, Ottoman and late Renaissance details.
The specialized magazine ‘Architectural Digest’ highlighted many of its luxuries inside the castle, such as Murano glass-tinted Venetian windows, fireplaces white limestone with gold leaf and inlaid mosaics, Italian wood floors, oak doors carved with plant ornamentation, oak and marble stairs with stone and wrought iron railings.
Although most Of the scenes were filmed there, the team also used other spaces to bring the story to life. An example is the office of the principal Larissa Weems (Gwendoline Christie), where Merlina arrives on several occasions. To recreate this space, the historic Monteoru House in Bucharest was used.
Without a doubt, all the locations chosen for the series met their objectives: to captivate viewers.
In addition to the location, the American actress Jenna Ortega has managed to captivate everyone in history thanks to her work. This is also demonstrated by his recent nomination for the Golden Globes, which announced all their nominees on Monday of this week.
