evan-longoria-signs-with-the-arizona-d-backs-for-one-season

The American baseball player Evan Longoria signed an agreement with the Arizona Diamondbacks to remain active in the Major Leagues at the age of 37; the player has established himself as one of the most effective over the years in the MLB.

The information about the union between both parties was released by journalist Steve Gilbert, from MLB.com, although to date the team has not made an official statement to present Longoria.

Longoria, who became a free agent for the first time in his 15-season MLB career, is coming off the last five seasons with the San Francisco Giants; on this team he became one of the most consistent players in the Majors.

Despite this, the ninth from the bay decided to pay him a compensation of five million dollars for not exercising his option of 13 million salary to keep him in their ranks during the 2023 season.

The veteran third baseman has seen his past two seasons marred by injuries. However, this did not stop him from being fundamental in hitting, posting a .252 average with 27 home runs in the 170 games he has played over the past two years.

Until now it is unknown if Longoria’s contract will be as a starter in the Major Leagues or if it will be a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training to check his physical performance and thus determine his future.

If he could win his position, the third baseman has performed as an excellent hitter against left-handed pitchers, so his arrival on the roster would be quite beneficial for this type of pitchers.

Throughout his career, Evan Longoria has posted a .265 batting average with an .806 OPS and 331 home runs in 10 seasons with the Tampa Bay Rays and five with the San Francisco Giants.
