A man died at the hospital after being shot in a confrontation with the New York police in Queens.
According to the NYPD, the incident occurred around 8 pm Thursday on Beach Channel Drive between Beach 56th Street and Beach 57th Street, in the Far Rockaway neighborhood.
Officers were conducting an investigation in a building, and as they approached the lobby, two unidentified men fled. They caught one of the suspects, but the other pulled out a gun.
An officer shot the gunman in the torso. He was taken to Jamaica Hospital, where he died hours later.
Authorities said the second suspect tried to escape. “We have internal video showing a violent struggle for 20 seconds,” said NYPD Patrol Chief John Chell.
The police published an image of the weapon carried by one of the suspects, but they do not believe that he actually fired. No officers were injured in the incident, reported ABC News.
The second man had a loaded .40 caliber semi-automatic firearm at the time of his arrest. He was later indicted on drug charges, according to Fox News.
