venezuelan-journalist-juan-vene-leaves-blank-form-in-voting-for-the-hall-of-fame

Little by little, the votes for the players who will be inducted into the Cooperstown Hall of Fame in 2023 continue to arrive, there are already 89 votes counted for 22% and the final results will be known on January 9, 2023.

A select group of journalists who are active members of the Association of Baseball Journalists of the United States for the last 10 years, are in charge of choosing the future immortals in Cooperstown and one of them is the Venezuelan Juan Vene, who in this election He left his ballot blank and did not vote for any player.

“I believe that none of the 28 candidates should have a niche in our illustrious Museum. Even this time I did not vote for Scott Rolen, nor for Andy Pettitte, nor for Billy Wagner to whom I gave my vote in the last election,” argued the 93-year-old journalist, who also detailed “Why? Well, because that’s life.”

The Venezuelan has been heavily criticized in the past for denying his vote to Omar Vizquel, a compatriot and historic player who for the vast majority deserves a place in Cooperstown. Vene also commented that “Very rarely have I voted for more than three candidates, because I have not found more than deserve my vote.”

On the other hand, he also questioned his colleagues, since he criticizes the fact that some voted on the list as many names as possible, which are 10 and many from their own country. “One of the lists from last year appeared with 10 votes and seven for players born in the same country, of course, the voter’s country. Is that justice or historical imbecility?

They lead the voting

With just over 20% of the votes counted, there are two clear favorites who are heading to Cooperstown, Scott Rolen with 79.8% and Rodd Helton with 78.7% are the names that lead the votes so far, as for Latinos Carlos Beltrán adds 56.2% , Manny Ramírez 42.7% and a little below Bob Abreu with 23.6%.
