American singer Anita Pointer passed away on December 31 at her home in Los Angeles, California. That information was confirmed through a statement from her agent, Roger Neal, on her Instagram account.

Pointer is recognized in the music industry for having founded the band The Pointer Sisters, which was born in Oakland, California, in 1971. The group consisted of her and her sisters Bonnie Pointer, June Pointer and Ruth Pointer.

Pointer’s agent wrote: “I am saddened to announce that my Grammy-winning client, Anita Pointer, has passed away after a heroic battle with cancer.”

The Pointer Sisters won their first Grammy in 1975 for the song “Fairytale,” which they co-wrote and performed. Their first album was published in 1973 and in addition to the aforementioned Grammy they won another two in their career.

It is assured that Pointer died surrounded by her loved ones, in addition the relatives express: “Despite our deep sadness for the loss of Anita, we are comforted to know that she is now with her daughter Jada and her sisters June and Bonnie, and at peace” .

Jada, the deceased daughter mentioned in the statement, was born on April 9, 1966. Anita Pointer had married David Harper in 1965, when she was just 17 years old. Although the relationship did not last more than a year, the singer was inspired by her first daughter to write a song entitled ‘Jada’, which is one of The Pointer Sisters’ greatest hits.

His daughter and sister June also died of cancer in 2003 and 2006, respectively.

Currently only one of the four sisters, Ruth, is still alive. It is known that the band began in the 70s in the community church where their father was pastor.
