During the last few hours, images of the Vila Belmiro stadium, home of Santos FC and the place where Pelé’s funeral takes place, had been disseminated.

Now, ESPN Brasil has published a video of the last goodbye of “O Rei”. In the images you can see his son Edinho, the former soccer player Zé Roberto and other relatives, carrying the body of what for many has been the best soccer player of all time.

Initially, the funeral was scheduled to take place on Sunday, January 1, but at the request of Pelé’s family, it was moved to Monday, January 2, so that it did not coincide with the inauguration of the Brazilian presidency in Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

After being veiled, the body of Edson Arantes do Nascimento will be buried in the private cemetery Necrópolis Memorial Ecuménica, located less than a kilometer from the Santos FC stadium, in Vila Belmiro, São Paulo.

While the wake is taking place, the president of FIFA, Gianni Infantino, has said from the place that he will ask all the soccer federations in the world to put the name of Pelé in all the stadiums in their respective next days.

“Pelé has a unique legacy. Pelé received a gift from God, a gift that few people on Earth have, which is to touch people’s hearts and emotions. The fact is that there are many people around the world, millions, billions, like me who have never seen him play, but are thinking of him and honoring him,” Infantino said.

Likewise, the president of Conmebol, Alejandro Domínguez, indicated that in the Copa Libertadores and the Copa Sudamericana, a minute of silence will be observed in all the matches up to the round of 16, in honor of Pelé.
