the-states-where-the-most-americans-moved-in-2022-are-revealed

Moving company North American Van Lines, Inc. this week released its annual migration map detailing where Americans are moving to in 2022.

The map found a significant trend of Americans leaving high-cost-of-living areas for warmer climates with more reasonable housing conditions, noting that southern states received the most people to move.

The analysis highlights the association between southern states easing Covid-19 restrictions first in 2020, as well as lower tax rates, which Americans, coupled with warmer temperatures, may find attractive.

The data for this report was calculated by defining the top inbound and outbound states as those with the highest proportion of movements where the absolute value difference of inbound and outbound movements is greater than or equal to 400.

According to the map, the main incoming states were:

– South Carolina, with 66%
– North Carolina, 64%
–Tennessee, 64%
–Arizona, 57%
– Florida, 56%

While the main issuing states were:

– Illinois, with 65%
– California, 62%
– New Jersey, 61%
–Michigan, 59%
– Pennsylvania, 59%
– New York, 59%

“Overall, you can see a clear trend of Americans leaving cold, expensive, high-tax states for warmer states with lower tax burdens, both at the state and city level,” said Ryan Cox, Director of Consumer Channel on North American Van Lines. “It is a continuation of what we saw in 2021 and 2020. We are interested to see if these trends continue through 2023.”

In conclusion, the map shows that the number of moves in 2022 was less than in 2021 and 2020, and that for the fourth year in a row, Illinois had the most significant percentage of outgoing moves, while Tennessee, South Carolina, and North Carolina they kept their places at the top of the list of incoming states since 2020.

Final considerations for selecting these incoming states include flexibility for remote work and the possibility of easy retirement.
