burglars-robbing-florida-home-call-911-for-help-'moving-stuff'

Two people in Florida have been arrested after one of them called 911 for help getting his belongings out of a home that was being burglarized, authorities said.

Deputies arrived at a home last Saturday after a 911 call was made but no one answered the door, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office said.

Agents concluded that no one lived there, but later found a male suspect and his girlfriend inside the house after agents entered through an unlocked door.

Deputies had been searching for the male suspect after identifying him on security video as a shoplifter at a Dollar General store in Poinciana, Florida, where several items were stolen earlier that day, the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

Poinciana is about 35 miles south of Orlando.

While speaking with the officers, the suspect told them that she had called 911 for the purpose of having the police help them remove their belongings from the house that was being burglarized. They also wanted a ride to the airport so they could spend the weekend in New York, the sheriff’s office said.

“Deputies DID help them with their belongings and DID give them a ride, but it didn’t go to the airport…it went to the Polk Pokey,” the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post. “And they are welcome to stay there all weekend. The Polk Pokey is way better than New York anyway,” referencing the prison.

The male suspect was charged with one robbery related to the store, and another from a residence. The female suspect was charged with burglary of a residence, according to the sheriff’s office.
