Édgar Ismalej Gómez has been arrested on suspicion of causing the death of his 2-year-old baby, police in Connecticut announced.
According to authorities, the 26-year-old suspect, a Stamford resident, is a convicted felon with a history of child abuse.
Stamford police have not released details of the investigation or the circumstances of the death of the boy Liam Rivera, according to ABC News. Ismalej Gomez was held on $3 million bail for an alleged probation violation, but more charges are expected.
Authorities said in court that the suspect held his partner, the boy’s mother, hostage for a few days and at some point the boy died and buried him in Cummings Park using a plastic bag. The baby’s body was found Monday and police said they were looking for his father.

He served 60 days of a five-year sentence and received three years of probation.
