After the arrest of Ovidio Guzmán, the most wanted son of the Mexican drug trafficker “El Chapo” Guzmán, the name of Adriana Meza Torres became relevant again, because she is designated as the wife of “El Ratón” and “La Nueva Reina del Sinaloa Cartel”.
The nickname arises because it is assumed as the supposed successor of Emma Coronel, wife of Joaquín Guzmán Loera, who is facing legal proceedings in the United States – within the criminal group.
The closeness of Adriana Meza Torres to the drug transfer business is not only linked to her supposed husband Ovidio Guzmán, since the Financial Intelligence Unit of the Mexican government announced in 2015 that it is presumed that she is the daughter of Raúl Meza Ontiveros, aka the M-6.
It is worth mentioning that the M-6 is a lieutenant operator of the drug trafficker Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, and that he was assassinated during a shootout in Culiacán in 2007.
In that year, the death of an alleged brother of Adriana Meza, Raúl Torres Meza, who was supposedly called “El Mini-6”, was also reported, who would have died in the state of Jalisco during a shootout.
During the six-year term of Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto, Meza’s bank accounts were frozen because he allegedly “had a sentimental relationship with Ovidio Guzmán López, son of Joaquín Guzmán Loera, alias ‘El Chapo’.”
Later, it was revealed that the woman was allegedly engaged in agriculture, a situation that raised suspicions about the real origin of her income, since it was revealed that she maintained an expensive lifestyle.
The defense of the so-called “New Queen of the Sinaloa Cartel” has promoted some injunctions to annul the action of the UIF; however, these have prospered in different ways, as there is allegedly a lack of tax returns, as well as some cash payments during trips abroad.
However, in October 2022 it was reported that a judge ordered the resolution of the investigation unit to be left “insubsistent”, in order to analyze whether Adriana Meza should remain on the list of blocked people, because they “showed themselves some tests”, among which checks and proofs of delivery of their work with corn crops between 2012 and 2015 stand out.
