Martinican soccer player Jean-Emmanuel Nédra, 29, was arrested at the Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport, France, when he tried to transport 100 kilograms of cocaine, the Bobigny prosecutor’s office reported, according to Le Parisien.

Nedrá, who is widely known in his country for representing the Martinique soccer team, was with his partner at the time of the capture, who was later released under judicial supervision.

The soccer player was traveling on his own at the time of the arrest. He is currently part of the L’Aiglon du Lamentin squad of the Martinique Football League.

His club spoke to local media, stating: “Without knowing his degree of participation, we learned that one of our players was arrested in Roissy for drug trafficking.”

“Let us be stronger than ever and united to continue our work of education through sport, to fight against this scourge, to protect and alert our young people to the risks, consequences and abuses of this environment”, continued the statement released by one of the team representatives.
