utah-man-who-fatally-shot-wife-and-five-children-was-in-divorce-proceedings

The man who allegedly killed his wife and five children before taking his own life in a Utah home on Wednesday was in the process of divorcing.

Tausha Haight had recently filed for divorce against Michael Orwin Haight. The reasons are not clear.

James Park, the woman’s attorney, told KUTV that he had met with the woman three times in recent weeks. The last time was the day before the bodies were found in Enoch’s home.

“I met with her three times, the last time was this Tuesday … and she answered basic questions,” Park told the television. “With all the information I had, there was nothing that could have prevented whatever was going through her husband’s head that could lead to this,” said the lawyer, who said he was shocked by the news.

Park described Tausha as extremely good, kind, and at every meeting, the only thing that mattered to her was her children.

The legal representative added that the woman never stated that she or her children were under threat of physical harm.

The couple had been married for about 20 years. Tausha filed for divorce on December 21 in the Fifth District Court in Cedar-Iron County.

The only public document in the process is a “Domestic Relations Injunction.” This document prohibits, among other things, incurring in acts of harassment, intimidation, domestic violence or abuse against the other party or children.

At the time of the events, Michael was sleeping in the basement of the family home. Michael worked as an insurance agent for Allstate in Cedar City.

Enoch City Police Chief Jackson Ames said at a news conference Thursday that they had previously investigated the family. However, the spokesman did not specify the nature of the inquiries.

“We were involved in some investigations with the family a couple of years ago,” he stated.

The man shot his family to death.
