The UANL Tigres, defending champions, were confirmed this Monday as favorites for the Clausura title in the Liga MX Femenil, by beating Atlas 6-0 at the end of the first day.
Nigerian Uchenna Kanu, with three goals, American Mia Fischel, with two, and Jacqueline Ovalle scored for the winners.
In the 6th minute, Fischel accepted a service from Ovalle and made it 1-0, extending the lead in minute 31 with a forehand from Fischel after a service from Natalia Villarreal.
In the second half, Tigres increased the advantage in a controversial way, with a goal from Kanu, after the goalkeeper Ana Gabriela Paz collided with an attacker and was left on the ground, without the referee stopping the game.
Kanu took advantage of a rebound from the goalkeeper and with a header made it 4-0, in minute 59; in minute 75 Ovalle scored a long-distance goal and in minute 92 Kanu also scored through the air to catch up with Alicia Cervantes as the lead scorer.
In the other duels on Monday, Argentina’s Ruth Bravo and Daniela Calderón each scored a goal to give León a 2-0 victory over Necaxa, Tijuana defeated Toluca 0-1 and Santos Laguna defeated 2-0 against Saint Louis.
