PSG is one of the teams that has invested the most in the last 10 years and has raised its wage bill in such a way that it exceeds the financial Fair Play. However, it has not been fined as it should by UEFA.
According to the newspaper L’Équipe for the 2019/2020 campaign, the Parisian club had a salary mass of €470 million and recognized losses of €124 million, in the following season they raised salaries to €505 million and the decrease also amounted to € 369 million; for 2021/2022 salaries skyrocketed even more reaching €608 million and with a drop of €224 million, which leaves a total loss in three years of €717 million.
The main reason for this hole in PSG’s finances has been the renewal of Frenchman Kylian Mbappé, for which the club would pay €630 million, in addition to a bonus of €180 million, which would mean a third of the Parisian team’s expenses.
And the financial Fair Play?
One of the strong criticisms of PSG is for the ability to evade the sanctions that in theory should be imposed by FIFA for not complying with the financial Fair Play, since to date the team has only been sanctioned with €10 million .
President Nasser Al-Khelaïfi would have to adjust the club’s accounts for the next three seasons, since in the summer of 2025 it should not have more than €60 million in deficit. In addition, the wage bill must be progressively reduced and not exceed 70% of income from the 2025/2026 season.
