jail-for-allen-weisselberg,-former-trump-finance-chief;-will-be-sent-to-rikers

After collaborating on a case against the Trump Organization, Allen Weisselberg, who was the chief financial officer of that corporation, was sentenced to five months in prison and five years of probation, in addition to other penalties for participating in a fraud scheme.

Weisselberg faced 15 counts of $1.7 million in tax evasion, but by pleading guilty he got a minimum prison sentence deal.

Although he didn’t want to do it, Weisselberg ultimately had to testify against the Trump Organization.

Now the former top finance official will be sent to the Rikers Island prison complex in New York City.

The charges include a refusal to pay $1.7 million in taxes, which were obtained through bonuses and other benefits from the Trump Organization, including renting a Manhattan apartment and paying for his grandchildren’s private school.

Last July, then-Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance unsealed the indictments against the Trump Organization and Weisselberg, following a grand jury decision.

The events for which he was accused occurred between March 2005 and June 2021, the court document indicates; the inquiry began in 2019.
