matheus-fernandes:-the-brazilian-who-did-not-play-a-minute-in-laliga-and-barcelona-will-have-to-pay-him-$9-million-to-fire-him

The finances and the signings of FC Barcelona have not been successful in recent years; Players like Antoine Griezmann, Eric García, Ferran Torres and Héctor Bellerín were not what was expected. One who didn’t make it into the culé team either was Matheus Fernandes, of whom he was not mentioned much because he couldn’t even play a minute in LaLiga in Spain.

The Brazilian arrived in Barcelona in January 2020 from Palmeiras for $7 million plus another $3.5 million in variables, since his arrival he did not play a minute in the league and in the Champions League against Dinamo kyiv he only played 17 minutes.

The player was loaned to Valladolid that half of the season, in which he was only in 3 games as a starter, for the 2020/2021 campaign he returns to Barcelona where he practically did not play. Fernandes had a salary of around $5 million per season. Barcelona would end up terminating his contract, which lasted until June 30, 2025.

The former Palmeiras took the case to court for his dismissal and the court sentenced the club last November to a sentence that dictates compensation to the Brazilian with $9 million, although he had requested $15 million for moral damages caused.
