A few days ago, doctors at a hospital in Uttar Pradesh, India, were surprised by the birth of a baby, who has a special condition that has caused a large part of his body to be covered in hair.
The images of this newborn were shared on social networks, in which it is evident how the little boy’s hair extends from his head to the lower part of his back.
According to The New York Post, the mother of this baby gave birth at the Bawan medical center in Hardoi, where the doctors who attended her during labor noticed that the little one had dark locks that covered 60% of his Body.
The baby was immediately referred to a specialist doctor named Ikram Hussain, who diagnosed him with giant congenital melanocytic nevus, a “skin condition characterized by a non-cancerous, abnormally dark patch of skin,” according to MedlinePlus.
This little one is not the first baby to be born with this rare genetic defect that develops during the newborn’s stay in the womb.
The giant congenital melanocytic nevus this baby was born with in India occurs in approximately 1 in 20,000 newborn infants worldwide and, according to experts, “generally grows at the same rate as the body grows and will eventually have at least 40 centimeters (15.75 inches) wide.
“The surface of a nevus can be flat, rough, raised, thickened, or irregular; the surface can vary in different regions of the nevus and can change over time”, indicate the specialists.
According to the media, the medical condition can cause skin dryness, irritation and itchiness as in the case of dermatitis with uneven growth of hair on the body.
