A man who reportedly traveled to Illinois specifically to Oakland County to meet with a 14-year-old girl who was stabbed to death after she refused to have sex with him, has been charged, according to authorities.
Oakland County deputies received a call at 12:11 midnight last Wednesday from a home in the block of North Bay Road in Springfield Township.
When they went to the site, they found the girl lying on the floor, who was bleeding from numerous stab wounds in the back and abdomen, the officials reported.
The young woman told police that she had met 18-year-old Julian Pinedo on social media, and that the subject had talked about going to Michigan for a visit.
When he arrived at the minor’s home and the Hispanic man learned that they were not going to have sexual relations, the man became angry and stabbed her several times with an eight-inch knife, the agents declared.
“Meeting in person with people you have met online can be extremely dangerous,” Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said.
“You have no idea who that person really is or their motivation. Anytime you meet someone online, it’s always a very good idea to meet someone in a public place, and preferably with someone else with you.”
Authorities said Pinedo acquired the knife Tuesday in White Lake Township, Click on Detroit reported.
The teenager was transferred to a nearby care center in critical condition, however, she is stable. Surgery was scheduled for Wednesday morning.
“The victim is stable and appears to be defending himself,” Bouchard said.
Police revealed that Pinedo fled the scene after a stabbing. He called 911 later and spoke with operators at Waterford Township.
An agent went to where the Hispanic was and they arrested him without incident.
The man was turned over to Oakland County officials and acknowledged that he got angry when the young woman did not want to have sex with him, so he attacked her with a knife, officials said.
The subject was arraigned Friday morning in the 52-2 District Court in Independence Township on one count of assault with intent to murder.
He was also granted a $2 million bond and is behind bars at the Oakland County Jail. A probable cause hearing is scheduled for February 7.
“We have taken an important step to hold the perpetrator accountable by indicting him on serious charges today,” Bouchard said. “I look forward to that procedure.”
The authorities indicated that the minor’s parents were not at home at the time of the attack and that her younger brother was asleep.
The young woman called her parents to tell them what had happened, so they went to the residence and called 911, officials said.
“Don’t share personal information like where you live or other things that would allow someone to locate or track you,” Bouchard explained. “In this situation, it was a minor, and for many reasons, meeting someone in person is a dangerous choice and we always discourage it.”
