Jared Dicus, accused of stabbing and beheading his wife, Nicaraguan Anggy Díaz in Texas, remains in prison after the judge hearing the case granted the prosecution’s request to increase bail to $1 million.
The 21-year-old was arrested on January 11 at the home he shared with the victim after he confessed to the crime, whose motive is currently unknown. The parents of the suspect were the ones who alerted the Police to the remains of the Central American. Dicus and Diaz lived in a house behind the defendant’s parents located in Oak Hollow south of FM 1488, in Magnolia.
The day before, Dicus would have attacked the Hispanic woman with a kitchen knife that was recovered at the scene.
On Tuesday, District Attorney Sean G. Whittmore requested an increase in bail from $500,000 to $1 million. Among the arguments in the request, Whittmore raised the heinous nature of Diaz’s death by beheading.
In addition, he made reference to Dicus’s violent behavior after being arrested for driving while intoxicated.
Dicus was out on bail for a DWI incident last November. In that instance, he allegedly threatened a Magnolia police officer and staff at the Montgomery County Jail.
“The defendant continued to exhibit mood swings and violent behavior, including window banging, until he was finally placed in a restraint chair for blood tests,” Whittmore said.
The young man was released on bail after paying $1,000.
At the hearing, Dicus was seen crying, and, at one point, the judge handed him a napkin.
In addition to increasing the bail amount, the judge ordered a mental evaluation of the defendant.
Dicus is accused of first degree murder for the death of Díaz who this week was repatriated and buried in his native country.
The couple had married in a private civil ceremony last October.
