us-reiterates-commitment-to-israel's-security-after-jerusalem-attacks

US Vice President Kamala Harris spoke by phone with Israeli President Isaac Herzog on Saturday to reaffirm America’s commitment to Israel’s security and condemn the “horrific” attacks in Jerusalem.

“Today, I spoke with President Herzog of Israel and condemned the horrific attacks in Jerusalem. The United States has an unwavering commitment to Israel’s security,” Harris said on Twitter.

Minutes later, the White House indicated in a statement that Harris expressed his concern to Herzog about the possibility of more violent attacks and offered the Israeli government “all” help that is necessary.

In less than 24 hours, there have been two attacks in East Jerusalem that have left at least seven Israelis dead and five wounded, in what the Israeli authorities consider a retaliation for the 9 Palestinians that the Israeli Army killed on Thursday in Jenin ( West Bank).

A shooting attack in the Jewish settlement of the City of David, in occupied East Jerusalem, left two injured today, a 23-year-old man in serious condition and a 47-year-old man in moderate to serious condition.

This is the second attack in less than 24 hours, after yesterday a Palestinian killed seven Israelis while leaving the Shabbat prayer in a synagogue in the settler settlement of Neve Yaakov, also in occupied Jerusalem, and injured three others.

In the statement distributed by the White House, Harris made specific mention of that attack and considered that it was “a senseless act of violence that claimed the lives of seven innocent victims in a place of worship.”

The Israeli authorities consider the attacks in retaliation for the violent incursion of the Israeli army on Thursday in Jenin, in the north of the occupied West Bank, which led to heavy clashes with armed militias that resulted in the death of 9 Palestinians.
